We're Having A...

Dianna & I went to the hospital today for the ultrasound. At first, the black and white blob made absolutely no sense, but the technician (who was a really nice Christian lady) explained it all. After about 1 minute on the screen, she spotted something that looked like a lima bean with something sticking out of it. Apparently, that meant it was a...
BOY!!
Upon hearing this news, I placed both arms in the air, fists clinched, in a sign of "Victory!" My prayers for a firstborn son have been answered, and we are absolutely thrilled! The ultrasound showed more than private parts, though. We saw his face (he was sucking his thumb), his little feet (Dianna's favorite part), and he even mooned us a few times.
_
Now, we just need help picking a name. Had it been a girl, we had a great name picked out, but the boy names have been a debate for us. Give us your preference:
_
FULL NAME / CALLED NAME
a) Joshua Thomas Culbertson / Joshua Thomas or Thomas
b) Joshua Ethan Culbertson / Ethan
c) Joshua Eli Culbertson / Eli
d) Joshua Luke Culbertson / Luke
e) Jimmy Dean Culbertson / "Bubba"
I'll keep you posted on the final decision.

Congratulations!!!!! Why call him by his middle name?? Why not Eli Joshua or some such? DD's Mama Carol has had it hard with her name being the middle one.Employers, insurance companys, doctors, hospitals, and the list goes on and on. Kids at school will also give him a hard time wanting to call him by his first name. He'll be tagged, junior. Just another angle to look at. I won't argue either way. WOW,taking up for my grandson already, and he's not even here yet??!! Hold on,we may be in for a hard ride...LOL LOL Love ya'll,Dad/Daddy

I'm so very excited for you both but I promise if you guys really name your child, Jimmy dean and call him Bubba I may never speak to you again.... I like Joshua Ethan, I've always liked the name Ethan. Love Melody

Congratulations!!! Did you get to see the heartbeat??? I thought that it was really cool to see on ultrasound, (which do tend to look like snow storms :)) I think it is really amazing that God can take two microscopic gametes and turn them into a healthy baby. Oh, if you think the 2nd trimester ultrasound was really cool, wait until the 3rd trimester, you get to see the nose, eyes and individual vertebrae.

My vote is for Ethan or Luke! Just like the names!

Congratulations first of all, and secondly I like the name Joshua Thomas...but, preferably Thomas Joshua or "T.J." How 'bout that?? This comment comes from Sheri and Cathy. But I'm sure whatever you decide he will be precious anyway!!

Congratulations! Ditto on the middle name thing.. it does get annoying, but it I kinda like being different. Plus its fun when people want to guess your middle name and they cant figure it out.. What happened to Wade Hampton Culbertson?

Dear Josh and Dianna,

Wowee! A boy! That's great! Be sure to put some lamb's blood on your door so you'll be passed over.

Also, I agree with Denny about considering not calling the child by his middle name. My brother, Wes, is called by his middle name and has a different first name, and it has caused nothing but problems for him. Just a thought.

Also, I like Ethan. Eli makes me think of the man who invented the cotton gin. What about Ethan Joshua?

Many Congrats!! I can only imagine the look on Josh's face. :) I have to say.. I love the double names. My first instinct is to call him Joshua Thomas, or J.T. When he's in trouble you'll call him all three names anyway, so why not make it easier? :) My second thought is Eli- but would that be short for Elijah? Cause that would sound neat, too. I could definitely picture an old man named Eli Culbertson running for senate... and that's really what it's all about. Please and I mean please don't call your child Bubba... it will make Culbertson family reunions sooooo confusing :) haha.. congrats to you both!

Oh, I meant to say this earlier -- I like the names Ethan and Luke. But I also agree with Monica and Denny about the second name since teachers and even doctor's appointments can be tricky depending on what name is used and what the person is called (my mother just had a problem getting a doctor's appointment since she goes by a nickname).

I know we talked about this on Sunday, but I have changed my opinion. You should name him "Spud," even if my vote doesn't count for beans. And congratulations (especially to you, Josh)--I know how much you wanted a boy.

We are so happy for you!!! I like the name Joshua Thomas, and I like calling him Thomas; but then I named mine John Andrew, and you'll have to ask him if it's been a problem. And then there's Leigh Ann with the double name...but Joshua Thomas is so classic. And of course Bubba is a joke..........right? Jan and Richard Cain

I vote for Jimmy Dean Culbertson. He makes great sausage and what better attachment to a person than excellent pork. Though I would strongly advise against calling him Bubba, but not for the reason you think. I like Bubba; I like the idea of calling my child Bubba. But that would rule out any good implications if he ever decided to run for office. We've already had one Bubba as President and he didn't do so well. But then again, maybe little Bubba Culbertson can bring honor back to the name of President Bubba.

Hold on! I went to comment and then I noticed that Mama and Daddy have already commented before me! How did they know about this blog/fantastic news/name voting before their oh-so-with-it daughter?! (never mind that I'm an ocean away) Anyway, congratulations!
Now about the name, I share the opinion that going by the middle name or a double name makes things a hassle, although Joshua Thomas does sound very nice. But please don't name him (Ethan) after one of "The Others"! (I haven't watched the third season of Lost, but I don't think they're getting any nicer!) I suggest Joshua as a middle name and then you'll have to wait for the first name to come to you in a dream.

Congrats on the blessing of a child! Praying that God richly covers you during this time and the future and that you even now open the gift that is your child! ps: not Bubba! (you were just kidding...right?)

Eli Joshua, without a doubt. But you've always wanted Joshua Thomas, so maybe you should stick with it.
